Lori Cornmesser Ruiz, known within the business world as Lori Cornmesser, lives in the Silicon Valley area.
Lori has earned recognition as a Channel Executive, a Board member of numerous prominent organizations, and a public speaker most recently through her position as Channel Chief at Ixia Communications where she worked for a number of years. Lori recently left her position with Ixia in pursuit of new career paths.
In her interview upon winning the award for the 2011 Woman Worth Watching of 2011, Cornmesser explained that the key to her success as a woman who is a mother, a wife, has a career and also looks after herself is, “mastering plate spinning.” She goes on to say that in her early years working, she made the mistake of over-committing to responsibilities. She had so much going on at once in so many areas of her life that she ended up overwhelmed, exhausted, and stretched way too thin. Lori knew that she needed to make a change in her life, and soon.
However, by spreading herself too thin across commitments, Cornmesser was able to take away a new perspective on how to best manage the various areas of her life in order to remain happy and healthy. To stay with her plate-spinning metaphor, Cornmesser explains the lesson she learned: “Some plates will bounce when they fall, while others, including family, health, friends and spirit, are fragile and will break if not watched.” This revelation helped Lori Cornmesser to learn how to both enjoy her life as a working woman as well as a mother, always making sure to take time for herself as well.
Because of her prominence and experience, Lori has since undertaken another role as a thought leader for working moms everywhere. She is a living example of a woman who is able to do it all by knowing what’s important to her and prioritizing what matters. She acknowledges that, for those women who are serious about their careers, maintaining a healthy life balance may take more work than average. But in order to thrive in the workplace, with one’s family, and as an individual, it is important to maintain these healthy checks and balances by knowing your priorities and sticking to them. While it is easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life, it is important to take the time to step back from it all and remember your personal values, the path you are on and why you have invested yourself in it, and how you can positively impact others.
Lori understands this mentality and uses it to maintain her professional life, her family life, her personal life, and on top of it all, her sanity. While there are some days that everything may seem as though it’s a priority, Lori knows that ultimately the most important things are her family and her mental well-being.
Lori’s commitment to her family has not stopped her from succeeding professionally.
Although Lori has had to learn to balance her work life and her family life, her role as a mother has in no way hampered her ability to succeed as a professional. In fact, balancing the many plates in her life has helped her to thrive in the bustling business world. Her 25 years worth of experience in Channel sales, business development, and marketing have all helped shape her solid business acumen and skillful ability to both develop and execute a wide range of strategies — sales, marketing, business development, and more — to increase revenue and grow market relevance.
Lori’s exceptional leadership skills and ability to motivate others are just the tip of her skill set. She is also experienced in Channel recruitment, development, and management, and is able to not only craft business development strategies but see them to fruition as well. Most of all, due to her ability to balance her home and work life, Lori thrives in high-activity and high-velocity environments.
Because of her hard work and dedication to her career, Lori Cornmesser was named to the CRN 2016 Channel Chiefs and has been recognized by CRN Magazine in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. She was also identified as one of the Top Women in the Channel, made the Power 100 list five times in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 and earned the Diversity First Leadership Award in 2014.
